One of the many things that Jesus taught His disciples, was how to pray. They walked with Him every day, but were still unsure about how to pray. I think we need to take some quiet time and simply ask Jesus
to do the same for us. Jesus . . . teach me to pray.
Luke:11, 1- 4, And it came to pass, that, as He was praying in a certain place, His disciples said unto Him, Lord teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. And He said unto them, When you pray, say, Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy name, Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in Heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for Thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory, for ever. Amen. What better example could we ever have than the words that Jesus spoke. He prayed with such sincerity and love that it still moves us today. All of the scriptures in Luke 11, as well as
Matthew 6, give us the guidelines to be able to pray effectively.
The word hallowed is a word that we don't often use, but it is a powerful word. Its definition is," worthy of religious veneration." Veneration means to have a religious zeal; a willingness to serve God. It is a word that in my mind can only be associated with God. I have never heard this word used with anyone, or anything else. It is a glorious word, worthy of our Glorious God. God's desire is for His will to be done on earth, as it is carried out in Heaven.
We need to always ask for forgiveness. We will never reach the point where we no longer sin while we are on this earth. There was only one sinless person and that is our Savior Jesus Christ. The next part is to forgive others. This is always hard to do, but we have to forgive others to have a truly blessed prayer experience with God.
I often forget to thank God for our food, but it is something that I will try to remember to do, for all things come from God. Pray for God to keep us safe from the evil of this world. For it is easy to be swayed or lead into temptation. Jesus knew about temptation, for He was also tempted. Hebrews 4: 15, For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
The final part of the prayer is to give worship and praise to our Father. Psalm 29:2, Give unto the Lord the glory due unto His name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.
